I think I am catching birthday fever, I am surrounded by gemini whose birthdays are all this week. So we decided to bring home some bubbles to continue the spirit. We only have three bottles of Godmé Blanc de Noirs at POP, so we wanted to try it before it was gone.
It is a grand cru Blanc de Noirs from Verzenay. Godmé Pere et Fils is an RM.
It is a light golden Champagne with fine bubbles. The nose is very aromatic, with aromas of blackberry jam, vanilla, and something floral. As it warmed up in the glass I sensed what I like to call a stinky cheese nose, similar to that of Tallegio. Matt wasn't a fan of the palate, but I enjoyed it. It is creamy, and fruit forward with flavors of blackberries, strawberries and currants, Chantilly cream, and a little roasted nuts and bread dough with some hints of herbs and lemon peel. It is well balanced with refreshing acidity, mild-med. tannins and a medium finish. I think it is certainly a drinkable Champagne worthy of attention and a second visit.
100%Pinot Noir.

be aware of very high prices when you want to buy this one over the internet... I have seen prices varying from 40€ to 65€ a bottle, which is way too much in comparisson with the original price when you buy from the farmer himself... We have been there this weekend, we have bought for about 700€ of champagne... The Blanc de Noirs Brut costs about 18€... Just so you know it... We live in Brussels Belgium, if there are people who are interested in buying champagne from this champagne farmer (who has 12ha of vineyards from which 80% is for own production and 20% is for the big champagne houses (who taste worse than the Godme Pere), just call 0032 492 73 02 73 and we can make an arrangement (since we go about once every two months if necessary...) (off course we won't drive for only 1 bottle... at least 6 bottles and preferably 12... as soon as we have an order of 36 bottles we drive to the farmer and back. We have a deal with the framer that we get better rates when buying in large amounts... just so you know we get more profit than when you would go on your own.
